The Mason Jug and Dahlias Tony Porter
The cobalt blue snake handle - scales picked out in gold leaf - and the stylised, golden pheasant on the Mason's jug, together with the single head of the white dahlia, form a glowing triumverate. Solid, glossy, lovely jug - probably dating from the first half of the 19th century - is melding into evansecent flower and the whole, exquisite composition is set, like a jewel, amidst the soft, rainbow blur of leaves and blooms and the air which surrounds them.
