Frog on a Rock Raymond Sheppard
It will quickly become clear that this is no ordinary frog. It is, in fact, a Hairy Frog, Trichobatrachus robustus. This intriguing creature is from Central Africa and is distinguished by dermal papillae (not actually hairs at all) along its flanks and thighs. Sheppard was - as always - very interested in the marvellous and strange creatures he encountered and studied in the zoo. The hot orange of leaves and rock which surround this frog lends him (the females are not hairy!) a strikingly exotic character.
